BarfieldMrs. Bertie Fowler Barfield, local artist, age 85, of Aragon, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.She was born in Tate on March 12, 1932 a daughter of the late Burton B. Fowler and Mamie Disharoon Fowler.Mrs. Barfield had been a resident of Aragon since 1975 moving here from Marietta.She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart and was a regular at the Bojangles in Rockmart most mornings. She was a local painter and artist who also enjoyed fishing.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Wilbur Barfield on Oct. 25, 2006 to whom she was married for 55 years; and by a brother Howard Fowler and sister, Jewel Thomas.Survivors include daughters: Becky Sailors (Tillman), Marietta; Peggy Moss (James), Dallas; sons: David Barfield (Tisse), Lawrenceville, Steven Barfield, Aragon and estranged son, Joseph Barfield (Jennifer), Tallapoosa; sisters: Marjorie Wigley, Edison, GA and Jolene Gravitt, Rockmart; sister in law, Ruth Fowler, Auburn, Ala.; 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services were held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. Jerry Adair officiating and a eulogy given by Mr. Dan Casey.Interment followed in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.Pallbearers included: Jason Hitt, Travis Hitt,Corey Wilson, Nathan Barfield, John Layfield, and Nathan Standridge. The Adult 4 Sunday School Class served as Honorary Pallbearers.The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Bertie Fowler Barfield.Mr. CoffeyMr. Christopher Michael Coffey, age 35, of Buchanan, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in a Rome medical center.He was born in Rome on May 18, 1981 a son of Michael Lee Coffey and Judy Reasor Coffey.Mr. Coffey and his parents lived in Michigan for a few years before the family moved back to Cedartown and then to Rockmart where he has lived the greater part of his life.He loved fishing, boating and riding four wheelers.His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.He was a real...

PhillipsMrs. Shirley E. Phillips, age 82 of Rockmart, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017.Mrs. Phillips was born Nov. 14, 1934 in Rockmart, daughter of the late Charles Ellison and the late Mary Harper Ellison. She was a graduate of Rockmart High School and a member of the Aragon United Methodist Church. Mrs. Phillips retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with over 40 years of service.She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Phillips on Oct. 6, 2000; and a daughter, Belinda Philips.Survivors included a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Dennis Caldwell of Rockmart; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Judy Ellison of Rome; three grandchildren, Trey, Travis and Kitzi; five great-grandchildren, Tristan, Lexi, Justin, Brooklyn and Hadlee also survived.Funeral graveside and interment services for Mrs. Phillips were held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the family lot of the Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. James Hannah officiating.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: E.J. Hall, Justin Caldwell, Tristan Hall, Kyle Ivester, Ryan Fields and Drew Waits. He had a love for coin collecting and restoring old vehicles.He spent his working career at Goodyear Mill where he retired with over 30 years of service.
